Charity Events Need some help with your charity poker tournament? Charity poker tournaments can be kind of tricky. It seems that most people hosting charity poker tournaments all try to follow the same format. They invite a bunch of people, take donations to play and then give away cash/prizes to the winners. You might be surprised to know that that violates Colorado Gaming Laws. Charitable events are not exempt from gaming laws. For gambling to occur, three elements must be present: Payment, Luck and Prize. So if you solicite donations, the outcome is determined by the luck of the cards and then you give a prize based on how the player performed in the game, you are now gambling. That of course is a brief explanation. Click here to read the Attorney Generals News Release regarding this matter. We do put on charity events for a fee, however please note that it must be within the bounds of the law. Contact us for more information. Dana@pokerstarzofdenver.com |
